Follicular Monitoring at NESA Institute of Fetal Medicine
Helping you understand your cycle, boost your chances, and take the stress out of fertility care.
What Is Follicular Monitoring?
Follicular monitoring is a series of ultrasound scans performed throughout your menstrual cycle to track the growth of the follicles within the ovaries and predict the time of ovulation. Think of it as real-time updates on what your body is preparing — so your doctor knows exactly when ovulation is happening, and you get the best shot at conception (naturally or with fertility treatments).
Why Is Follicular Monitoring Important?
Because timing is literally everything when you are trying to conceive. Without monitoring, trying to conceive feels like shooting in the dark. With it, you get:
- Pin-pointed ovulation tracking
- Better planning for natural conception
- Optimised timing for IUI and IVF cycles
- Improved success rates
- Early detection of issues like poor follicle growth, irregular ovulation, or hormonal imbalance
In short: it takes the guesswork out and puts clarity back in.
How Does the Process Work?
We keep it simple and comfortable.
1. Baseline Ultrasound (Day 2–3)
Your doctor checks the resting follicles and lining to understand how your cycle is starting.
2. Regular Follicle Tracking (Days 8–14)
You’ll come in for short, painless scans every 2–3 days.
The doctor measures follicle size, ovulation timing, and how your uterine lining is developing.
3. Monitoring for Ovulation
Once the follicle is mature (usually 18–22 mm), your doctor will guide you on the best time for intercourse, IUI, or trigger shot — depending on your fertility plan.
4. Post-Ovulation Assessment
A quick scan to confirm ovulation and assess luteal phase changes.
No drama, no discomfort — just smart, personalised tracking of your body’s natural rhythm.
Who Should Consider Follicular Monitoring?
It’s helpful for anyone trying to conceive, especially if:
- You have irregular periods
- PCOS makes your cycles unpredictable
- You’re planning IUI or IVF
- You’ve been trying to conceive for months without success
- You want a more personalised fertility plan rather than guesswork
